Ava's First 3 Weeks

We knew after everything that went on with you and this pregnancy, the chances were slim you would arrive on April 15, your c-section scheduled at 39 weeks. What we didn't know is that you'd show up a 36 weeks, a month early!! I went to my 36 week appointment on Thursday, March 27, and had been having some cramps that felt like when I went into labor with Grady. When I told the doctor, she wasn't too concerned and hardly wanted to see if I was dilated, but I asked her to check, and sure enough I was 3 cm. She said at 4 cm, I would be admitted to the hospital. I was meeting my friends for lunch and had a haircut that afternoon, but she told me to come back to the dr in 2 hours and they would check me again. I went back and they hooked me up to a machine to check contractions and then checked my cervix again. They sent me home and said I could walk around 3cm dilated for a month. I was so sad because that meant I would have to go back to work after Spring Break, yuck!! That night, I went to blow my nose in the bathroom and thought my water broke.

So we called Mimi to come over and went to the hospital. They got us all checked in and then did a test to see if my water broke, and it hadn't.... it was just pee. Oh man!! They came and got $300 for the admit fee to the hospital, and I was sure we'd be sent home. They told me I could walk around for an hour and a half and see what happened. Well, it worked. I went into labor and the contractions were 2 minutes apart and pretty intense. They said we better do our c-section sooner than later. So, at 3:34a.m. you were born.

I can't tell you how happy I am that you are finally here... not sure I would have made it another month. Oh, and you even waited long enough for me to get my hair done and meet my friends that afternoon.

Already off to a great start little Miss Ava.
