Grady's eye had been bothering him a few days before Easter. The sun bothered him, he'd cry in the car because it was too bright, he'd rub it and say it hurt off and on. He didn't have school the Monday after Easter, Tuesday, I took him to school and he fell apart when we got there saying it hurt so badly. I took him back to Grandma's and made an appt for Wednesday. Thinking all the while, it is probably just allergies. It couldn't be pink eye because it wasn't itchy or that red. Seriously, debated canceling the appointment on Wednesday because he seemed to be ok, all evening Tuesday- and he is sometimes a little dramatic these days.
Exhibit A- Easter pics. Wouldn't look up.
Exhibit B- infant sunglasses in the car.
We went to the dr. on Wednesday, the doctor sent us to the eye doctor who then sent us to the opthamologist. He said there was definitely something in his eye and gave us cream to attempt to get it out. He told us to return Friday and if it was still there, they'd need to do surgery to remove it.
What are the odds.... it was still there. We had him eat a small breakfast Friday morning at 6 in case he had to have the surgery. Got the girls dropped off and taken care of by the whole village of people who love us. Auntie Ash, Mimi and Grandma all helped. We went to the hospital at 12:30 and surgery was at 2:00. Grandpa showed up there to see us.
Here we are in the waiting room with grandpa.
They tried to give Grady a drink that would try to get him drowsy enough to remove whatever was in his eye. Shockingly enough, he didn't fall asleep. So weird. So, on to plan two. They went to the operating room and gave him some anaesthesia to knock him out. It didn't take long to get it removed. It took a long time for him to wake up for us to go home. He had to ride in a wheel chair because he was a bit wobbly.
The doctor said it was a small piece of metal in his eye. Who knows where it came from, or why it didn't just rub out like most things that get in our eyes. Anyways, he is all better now and we are so thankful for the amazing doctors and nurses throughout the whole thing. Can I say once again though... what are the odds? Seriously. Piece of metal in eye. Surgically removed. Geez louise.
