Piggy's 4th Birthday

This party has been in the works for weeks now. Every night when Laine goes to bed, she asks me to "talk Piggy". So, I do. One night in our conversation she told Piggy/me it was nearly his birthday and she was going to have a party for him. Piggy/me, of course, responded the he was SO excited and could not wait for a party just for him. We put the date of the party on the calendar for Tuesday of Thanksgiving break since we would all be home to help Piggy celebrate.  At Grandma's last week, they made party hats. She prepared the table with plates and napkins. We shopped for mud (chocolate pudding) and dirt (crushed Oreos). Piggy also wanted hot cocoa and tea for his party. The guest list was short. Not many made the cut. Just Glowie, Bugsy, Lainey(the bear) and a random tiger she just found.

Here are the guests in their party hats.

Piggy blowing out his candle after we sang to him. He is 4 in case you were wondering.

BFFs kissing.

Oh, Grandma got the invite of course. She was in on the planning. She brough Piggy an apple as a gift. Pigs love apples you know.

All the party guests posing for the camera!

Piggy LOVED his mud and dirt. So did Laine.

And Grady.

Piggy even got a gift from Lainey. It was a colored picture of Dora. He loved it.
And he loved his party too.

One Day Fall.... the Next Day Winter...

Is that a baby in a trash bin?
Yes, yes it is.

Is that a baby and two naked older children in a trash bin?
Yes, yes it is.

Is their father in charge of them?
Yes, yes he is.

Did their mother make them go in and take a bath after she witnessed this?
Yes, yes she did.

But they had tons of fun while it lasted. Just like last year, and the year before when dad put them in the bin to smash down the leaves. I guess you could call it a tradition. A weird, kind of gross, tradition.

And just a few days later, on Veteran's Day... we woke up to this. Needless to say, the kids were THRILLED. These pics were definitely taken around 6:47 a.m. and they would've been out earlier if they could have found their gloves and hats faster.

Don't think this little miss was going to miss a second of the action. She just left her Pjs on. I seriously had to yell at Kris who was out there shoveling to bring her in because she was going to get frost bite. She was just milling around the yard in the snow. Half frozen.

The hot chocolate followed at 7:05. What a way to start the day:)

And thes next two pics are added because they are cute.

3 Things

I read this on someone else's blog and thought it was a good way to capture what's going on with these three right now. But first things first. Look at this pic that popped up on my Facebook feed from 5 years ago. Five years ago, how has that happened!?!

Three things about this little guy five years later.
1. He has recently become obsessed with football. Not just interested, more like passionate. And he is full of information. We checked out football books at the library and have read them every night for a month. He chooses to watch Sportscenter and recorded CU football games in the morning instead of Octonauts or Jake and the Neverland Pirates. He has memorized all the NFL logos and created books about them. The books include the logo, drawn and colored as well as a sentence informing the reader of the number of trophies these teams have won. (Info memorized from a library book read nights before). He watches the ticker that goes across the bottom of the screen on Sundays and let's us know the scores of every game. Kris just asked him what the Chiefs score was from yesterday and he stated 33 to 3. True. And he was correct.  He does math that calculates how teams would have gotten 9 points, or how many more points a team needs to catch up and win. It is pretty cute..... and totally what we would have expected from him. Since he has a mom and dad that were the same as kids. Ha.

2. He has become more fearful of being left places that ever before. He used to go to Sunday school with no problem but now he is very anxious and takes a lot of convincing. He is always waiting at the door for me when I go get him. We figured out it is because he saw a boy in his class did not get picked up from school and he was very worried and crying. Now, he thinks we will forget him:( Even with lots of reassurance, he still isn't quite convinced we will always remember to pick him up.
3. He loves to draw. Grady spends most of his free time at our art table creating and drawing with his sharpies, crayons and markers. At free choice time at school, the only center he ever goes to it the art center where he paints, makes puppets, and creates things we find in the bottom of his backpack every night. This is a free hand Jayhawk since Grandpa likes the KU Jayhawks.

Three things about Ava:
1. She loves to put clothes on. She can't wait to put socks on in the morning. And she LOVES her boots. She would wear her coat all day and all night. Lately, she has discovered Laine's robe. She wears it around the house on top of her pjs like an old lady. The past three nights, she's slept in it. She is odd.
2. She wants to be in the mix. She's pretty sure she around age ten or eleven. Her confidence does not match her skills in all areas of her life, but that sure does not stop her from trying. She scales the playground chain in our backyard and falls 50% of the time, but she hops right back up there. When Grady and Lainey were headed out at 6:30 a.m. to play in the snow, she was at the back door with her coat, pjs, and boots on ready to go. She will not be left out. Ever. Never ever.
3. She loves to dance. Her favorite is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse hot dog dance. She bounces her little heart out. Anytime there is a song on TV she makes her way to the floor and shakes her little booty. It. Is. Awesome.

Three things about Lainey:
1. She says funny things. Such as, "Grady, I love you so much, even though you are very mean to me." "Grady, I hope you know Santa is watching you. And God is watching you." "Mommy, I love you so so so much. Like almost as much as Piggy." While looking at an American Girl catalog, "Oh my goodness, that doll is a-dor-able. I need her." Responding to what she wants for Christmas, "I don't know what I want, but I do want Santa to bring Ava some dolls because she takes all of mine all the time."
2. She is starting to be interested in writing her letters and making words. She has never really sat still long enough to do anything that takes lots of time. Now, she will sit an do her preschool workbook and write all of our family's names or draw pictures of people in or family. She loves to watercolor at her art table for long periods of time. All new interests to her.

3. She is a great big and little sister. Lainey will do anything Grady asks her to do or play (when he's in the mood). She is his biggest fan and is so supportive of anything he draws, says, thinks.... she's a little encourager. As a big sister, she lets Ava play with all of her things without much of a fuss. She tries to play with Ava, but Ava doesn't really get it yet. Lainey has a super loving and kind heart. I pray that she always has that kindness in her. Even when she is 13. :)

Trick or Treat!!!

Halloween this year started of with Grady's buddy Hank's 6th brithday at Build a Bear. It was at 10, and we were, of course, awake at 5:45, so we headed over a bit early and enjoyed a mom and son Starbucks date. Kids hot chocolate it a hit.

After the party, we headed to the Brighton Fall Festival where the kids got Trick or Treating round one taken care of.

A mama giraffe and her baby.

All three cute as can be.

I think he's flashing his Buffs jersey to reveal what he truly wanted to be for Halloween. When we got ready to go out trick or treating at home, he decided he wanted to be a Buff football player. He had all he needed so traded out the raccoon for the football player for the evening.

The giraffe and raccoon got too hot on the warm Halloween day, so they stripped down....
Mimi and Papa walked around with us and bought the kids some hot dogs. It was like a summer day!

That night, two giraffes and a Buff.

Looking tough. He's Sefo (the CU QB)

This girl was on a mission. She basically jogged herself around the block, held her own bag, and attempted to walk into most houses we went up to. She partially got the concept. She fell on most driveways, but never cried and hopped right back up to head to the next house. So darn cute. And her parents are enjoying the candy she collected for us.

Grandma and Grandpa came over to see costumes and drop off some treats (popcorn balls) and other good stuff. They ended up walking with us for a bit and came back with Avers and me while the big kids kept going with dad.

Checking out the loot.

Watching the Royals with Grandpa. About asleep!

A bit out of order, but the night before, kids had a great time with dad painting their ninja turtle pumpkins.

We were watching the Royals in the World Series while painting.

So crafty!

Thank you Pinterest.

They turned out so well, good work artsy dad:)
